Anti-corruption war: Okonjo Iweala’s ‘advice’ to Buhari sparks outrage

Former finance minister, Dr. Ngozi Okonjo Iweala, has grabbed headlines again following her appearance on Aljazeera show, The Stream, where she spoke on Nigeria’s corruption challenges.
Okonjo Iweala who appeared on the show on Monday night, September 12, at several points in her speech proffered solutions to Nigeria’s corruption problems.
The former minister who regretted that the economic gains recorded in Africa started eroding a few years ago, expressed hopes that Nigeria would recover from its current economic challenges.
Iweala said changes like switching to an electronic platform for money transfers are more effective than going after corrupt individuals.
She also called for the fight against corruption to be extended beyond individuals to institutions.
However, it appears not all Nigerians are pleased with the former finance minister following the alleged financial recklessness that characterized the former administration under which she served.
Her appearance on the Aljazeera show has generated a debate on social media as some Nigerians praised her for her comments while others attacked her.
